Shanghai International Studies University CSC Scholarship 2027: Benefits, Eligibility and How to Apply

The Shanghai International Studies University CSC Scholarship 2027 offers international students an opportunity to pursue fully funded master’s and doctoral degrees in China. Applications are open for the September 2027 intake, with a deadline of 22 November 2026 at 24:00 Beijing time.

The scholarship covers tuition, on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance and a monthly living allowance. Master’s students receive RMB 3,000 per month, while doctoral students receive RMB 3,500.

Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) plans to offer 50 scholarships, although the China Scholarship Council (CSC) must approve the final number. The university’s Type B application process covers two pathways: the High-Level Graduate Programme and the Silk Road Programme.

To apply, candidates must first complete an initial CSC submission and a separate SISU application before the deadline. Later, applicants who receive a programme admission notice must upload that notice to CSC and resubmit as instructed.

This guide explains the scholarship benefits, eligibility requirements, document preparation, application sequence and selection timeline. It also identifies details that applicants should confirm in SISU’s separate programme table and document checklist.

Shanghai International Studies University CSC Scholarship 2027 Overview

The scholarship operates under the Chinese Government Scholarship Type B scheme. At SISU, it supports eligible international students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees.

The High-Level Graduate Programme seeks candidates with strong academic backgrounds, professional abilities and potential for further development. SISU reviews applicants, recommends scholarship candidates and submits their applications for CSC expert review.

Meanwhile, the Silk Road Programme supports postgraduate study in designated fields connected with the Belt and Road Initiative. It targets eligible applicants from Belt and Road partner countries and depends on CSC approval for the current year.

Both pathways share the same initial application process, deadline and entrance examinations. Therefore, applicants do not need to submit separate initial applications for each pathway.

About Shanghai International Studies University

Shanghai International Studies University is the host institution for this scholarship opportunity in Shanghai, China.

For prospective postgraduate students, the most useful starting point is the university’s academic information for international applicants. Review your intended department, its research interests and the requirements for your chosen degree before preparing an application.

A suitable programme should connect with your previous education and future goals. For example, doctoral applicants should consider whether the department’s expertise supports their proposed research. Master’s applicants should also examine how the programme builds on their academic background.

However, the university’s general academic offerings do not establish scholarship eligibility. For this particular call, SISU directs applicants to its Graduate Program Information Table (2027).

Therefore, choose your degree from that table and check the 2027 Admissions Prospectus for International Students for additional requirements. Do not assume that every postgraduate programme at SISU participates in the scholarship.

Shanghai International Studies University CSC Scholarship 2027 Benefits

The scholarship provides financial support throughout the approved study period. SISU applies the relevant Chinese government scholarship standards when administering these benefits.

Full Tuition Fee Waiver

Successful recipients receive a tuition waiver for their approved programmes.

Master’s funding generally lasts two to three years, while doctoral funding lasts four years. However, applicants should follow the duration in their final admission notice.

This support removes a major study expense. Nevertheless, recipients must continue meeting the scholarship’s academic and annual review requirements.

Monthly Living Allowance

The scholarship includes a monthly allowance to help students meet everyday expenses while studying in Shanghai.

Study Level Monthly Allowance Illustrative 12-Month Total
Master’s degree RMB 3,000 RMB 36,000
Doctoral degree RMB 3,500 RMB 42,000

The 12-month figures simply multiply the monthly allowance by 12. They do not establish a separate annual entitlement or payment schedule; the applicable scholarship rules govern actual payments.

Students should prepare a personal budget for meals, local transportation, communication and other daily needs. In addition, setting aside money for initial expenses can help during arrival and registration.

On-Campus Accommodation

The scholarship includes on-campus accommodation.

Recipients should follow SISU’s instructions for accommodation arrangements and residence procedures. They should also check what they need to bring and whether any personal or incidental expenses apply.

The main announcement does not promise a particular room type or a cash alternative to university accommodation. Therefore, confirm those details directly if they affect your plans.

Comprehensive Medical Insurance

Recipients receive comprehensive medical insurance for international students in China.

The announcement specifies an insurance standard of RMB 800 per person per year. This figure describes the insurance provision, rather than an additional cash payment to the student.

Before travelling, review the policy information and understand how to seek treatment or request reimbursement. The insurance policy determines the actual benefits and exclusions.

Expenses Not Specifically Listed

The announcement does not list international airfare, visa fees or personal travel as separate scholarship benefits.

Consequently, applicants should budget for expenses beyond the stated tuition, accommodation, allowance and insurance package. Avoid assuming that “fully funded” means the scholarship pays every cost associated with moving to China.

Shanghai International Studies University CSC Scholarship 2027 Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must satisfy SISU’s nationality, health, age and language requirements.

They must also meet the conditions in the 2027 Admissions Prospectus for International Students and any additional requirements for their selected degree.

Nationality and Health Requirements

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.

The main scholarship announcement states this general condition without providing a country-by-country eligibility list for the High-Level Graduate Programme.

For the Silk Road Programme, additional country and major restrictions apply. In particular, SISU considers eligible applicants from Belt and Road partner countries for designated programmes, subject to CSC approval.

Academic Qualifications and Age Requirements

SISU publishes separate age conditions for master’s and doctoral applicants.

Study Level Age Requirement in the Announcement Additional Academic Check
Master’s degree Under 35; born on or after 1 September 1992 Confirm the qualifying degree and academic requirements in the 2027 admissions prospectus.
Doctoral degree Under 40; born on or after 1 September 1987 Confirm the qualifying degree and academic requirements in the 2027 admissions prospectus.

Use the announcement’s explicit birth-date cut-offs when checking your eligibility.

Applicants must also hold the qualifications that their intended programme requires. However, the main scholarship announcement does not reproduce the full academic admission rules.

Therefore, consult the prospectus before relying on assumptions about degree equivalence, expected graduation or acceptable proof of study.

English and Chinese Language Requirements

The scholarship announcement specifies the following minimum language scores:

Programme Language Required Qualification Minimum Score
Chinese-taught HSK Level 5 180
English-taught IELTS 6.0

Choose the requirement that corresponds to your intended programme’s teaching language.

The main guidelines do not explicitly confirm TOEFL, a Medium of Instruction certificate or a previous English-medium degree as alternatives to IELTS. Likewise, they do not establish a general language-test waiver.

If you want to use another qualification, obtain confirmation from SISU before relying on it. Also, check whether your selected programme has additional language conditions.

Additional Selection Requirements

Meeting the minimum eligibility conditions does not guarantee admission or scholarship funding.

First, SISU checks applicants’ basic qualifications. Eligible candidates then take the university’s online written examination and interview.

Only applicants who pass the graduate entrance examination can proceed to scholarship candidate review. After that, SISU selects its nominees and CSC conducts the relevant final review.

As a result, applicants should prepare for both the university admission process and the scholarship selection stage.

Available Master’s and PhD Programmes at SISU

The official scholarship guidelines direct applicants to a separate Graduate Program Information Table (2027).

That table should guide your choice of degree. Check the exact programme title, teaching language and study duration before entering your preferences in either application system.

The separate table was not independently accessible during preparation of this article. Therefore, this guide does not present individual majors as confirmed for the 2027 scholarship.

Master’s Degree Programmes

Master’s programmes generally receive funding for two to three years.

Before applying, check the official programme table and admissions prospectus for:

  • The exact degree and programme title.
  • The language of instruction.
  • The programme’s academic duration.
  • Required previous qualifications.
  • Additional departmental application conditions.

A programme in SISU’s general catalogue does not automatically qualify for this scholarship call. Therefore, use the 2027 scholarship programme information rather than an older catalogue or a third-party list.

Doctoral Degree Programmes

Doctoral funding generally lasts four years, subject to the final Admission Notice.

Prospective PhD applicants should first confirm that their intended discipline appears in the official programme table. Next, review the relevant department’s academic requirements and research expertise.

A focused research direction can help you explain your choice of department during the application and interview. However, confirm any formal supervisor-contact or endorsement requirement in the official instructions.

How the Two Scholarship Pathways Work

The High-Level Graduate Programme and Silk Road Programme share the initial Type B application route.

SISU submits High-Level Graduate Programme recommendations first. Later, it may review eligible applicants for the Silk Road Programme according to CSC approval and the designated majors.

The announcement explicitly states that CSC may not approve the Silk Road Programme for the current year. Consequently, applicants should not treat it as a guaranteed second funding route.

SISU also does not duplicate recommendation quotas between the pathways. Furthermore, the guidelines give each Type B applicant only one evaluation opportunity. If CSC’s expert review eliminates a university-recommended candidate, that candidate’s Type B application for the year ends.

Required Documents for the SISU CSC Scholarship 2027

Applicants should follow the official Application Materials Checklist for Chinese Government Scholarship, together with the admissions prospectus and application-system instructions.

The main announcement links to that checklist, but its separate contents were not independently accessible for this article. The document guidance below therefore distinguishes confirmed submission requirements from details that still need verification.

Confirmed Submission Requirements

Requirement What the Main Announcement Confirms
CSC Scholarship Application Form Download it after the initial CSC submission and upload it to SISU
File format Upload all materials except photographs in PDF format
Document quality Provide clear, authentic and valid materials
Contact information Enter a valid email address and telephone number
Programme Admission Notice Upload it to CSC later and resubmit as instructed
Original application materials Bring them for verification during registration

Documents to Check Against the Official Checklist

The existing draft identifies several document categories for preparation. However, applicants should confirm each requirement and its exact format in SISU’s official checklist.

Document Category Details to Verify
Passport Required pages and acceptable validity
Academic certificates Required qualifications, certification and any rules for pending graduation
Academic transcripts Coverage, certification and translation requirements
Language evidence Accepted certificate, minimum score and validity
Study or research plan Language, length, content and signatures
Recommendation letters Number, referee qualifications and submission format
Supervisor or departmental documents Whether they apply to your programme and when to submit them
Physical examination documents Required form, examination scope and validity period
Non-criminal record certificate Acceptable issuing authority, issue date and translation
Additional programme materials Any department-specific evidence

This table provides preparation guidance. It does not replace the official checklist or confirm every listed category as mandatory for every applicant.

CSC Scholarship Application Form

First, complete and submit the initial application in the CSC system.

Then, download the generated Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship and upload it with your SISU application.

The university explicitly requires this form during the initial application stage. Therefore, complete the CSC step before finalising your SISU submission.

Academic Certificates and Transcripts

Prepare the academic records that your intended programme requires.

Check whether SISU requests certified copies, translations or particular evidence for applicants awaiting graduation. The main scholarship announcement does not settle those details.

Also, make sure your name, dates of study and qualifications remain consistent across your documents and both application systems.

Study or Research Plan

Prepare a study or research plan that connects your academic background with your intended degree.

Your plan should explain your interests, objectives and reasons for choosing the programme. For doctoral study, it should also describe a clear research problem and a realistic approach to investigating it.

Details requiring confirmation: the existing draft refers to a proposal exceeding 1,000 words and a supervisor signature for doctoral applicants. This article has not independently verified those conditions in the separate checklist.

Therefore, check the official wording before treating either condition as mandatory.

Recommendation Letters

Arrange academic references early so your referees have enough time to prepare useful letters.

A strong reference should explain your academic abilities and suitability for postgraduate study through relevant examples.

Details requiring confirmation: the existing draft identifies two letters from professors or associate professors. Confirm the number, referee qualifications and submission format directly in the official checklist.

Pre-Admission and Supervisor Documents

Keep the initial application requirements separate from documents that SISU issues later.

Under the published sequence, successful applicants receive a programme Admission Notice after the entrance assessments. They then upload that notice to CSC and resubmit.

Therefore, you do not need that later-issued notice to begin the initial CSC and SISU applications.

However, this sequence does not establish whether a particular department requires separate supervisor consent or another supporting document. Check any such requirement in the programme instructions and official checklist.

Physical Examination and Non-Criminal Record Documents

The existing draft includes medical examination and non-criminal record documents among its preparation categories.

Confirm their exact requirements before arranging them. In particular, check the required form, acceptable issuing authority and validity period.

This helps you avoid obtaining documents too early or using evidence that does not meet the university’s rules.

Document Submission Format

Except for photographs, SISU requires PDF files for uploaded materials.

Use clear scans and check that every page is readable. Also, confirm that your files contain all required pages and that the information remains authentic and valid.

Finally, provide a working email address and telephone number. SISU uses email for examination arrangements and other application communications.

How to Apply for the Shanghai International Studies University CSC Scholarship 2027

The process includes an initial CSC application, a separate SISU submission, entrance examinations and a later CSC resubmission.

Follow the sequence carefully, because the first CSC submission alone does not complete the scholarship application.

Step 1: Choose an Eligible Postgraduate Programme

First, review SISU’s Graduate Program Information Table (2027) and admissions prospectus.

Choose a programme that matches your qualifications, interests and language results. Then, check any additional departmental requirements.

Resolve questions about programme eligibility before entering your choices in the application systems.

Step 2: Complete the Initial CSC Application

Next, register or sign in to the Chinese Government Scholarship online application system.

Enter your personal and academic information and use these details:

Application Field Required Information
University Shanghai International Studies University
Scholarship category Type B
Agency code 10271

Submit the initial application and download the generated scholarship application form.

This is an initial submission. SISU requires a later update and resubmission after it issues your programme Admission Notice.

Step 3: Apply Through the SISU Application System

Create an account in SISU’s International Student Online Application System.

Complete your details and upload the required supporting materials, including the CSC form from Step 2. Then, pay the university application fee and submit the complete application.

The main announcement requires an application fee but does not specify the amount. Therefore, check the current charge and payment instructions in the university system.

Complete both initial applications before 22 November 2026 at 24:00 Beijing time. This means the end of 22 November, not the beginning of the day.

SISU uses the successful submission time in its own system to determine whether your application meets the deadline.

Step 4: Monitor Your Application Status

After submission, check your SISU account and email regularly.

The university explains two particularly useful application statuses:

Application Status Meaning and Action
Received SISU is processing the application, which has entered the examination queue
Returned due to incomplete materials Review the feedback, correct the application and submit again before the deadline

A “Received” status that remains unchanged does not by itself indicate a problem.

However, if SISU returns your application for corrections, respond promptly. The university requires the final submission before the application deadline, so applying early gives you more time to resolve missing materials.

Step 5: Complete the Entrance Examinations

SISU schedules its basic qualification review for 27 November 2026.

Applicants who meet the requirements proceed to departmental entrance assessments. The university plans to hold the online written examinations and interviews from 1–11 December 2026.

Check your email for the actual arrangements and prepare the equipment you need for the online assessments.

Attend every required examination. SISU treats failure to attend as giving up the application.

Step 6: Receive the Programme Admission Notice

SISU plans to approve the proposed admission list on 14 December 2026.

It then expects to update successful applicants’ status to “Admitted,” notify them by email and issue programme Admission Notices on 15–16 December 2026.

This notice confirms programme admission at that stage of the process. It does not guarantee a CSC scholarship.

Scholarship candidate review and CSC’s final decision still follow.

Step 7: Return to CSC and Resubmit

After you receive the programme Admission Notice, return to the CSC system when SISU instructs you.

The university returns the original CSC application so you can upload the notice and submit the updated application.

Although the system may describe this return as a rejection, SISU includes it in the published update process. Read the university’s instructions before interpreting the status.

Upload your programme Admission Notice and resubmit the CSC application. This step completes the official scholarship application submission.

Step 8: Await Scholarship Candidate Selection

SISU schedules High-Level Graduate Programme scholarship candidate reviews for 17–23 December 2026.

Only applicants who pass the graduate entrance examination qualify for this stage. Departmental scholarship review committees discuss and decide the candidate lists.

Next, SISU plans to publish the scholarship candidate list for seven calendar days, from 24–30 December 2026. During the same period, it conducts a final review of application materials in the CSC system.

Step 9: Follow CSC Review and Final Results

SISU plans to submit its High-Level Graduate Programme recommendations to CSC on 1 January 2027.

CSC expert review follows in April–May 2027. During that period, SISU may also review and recommend Silk Road candidates if CSC approves the programme.

The university schedules final results and formal admission documents for June–August 2027. Successful candidates must confirm acceptance before SISU issues the formal documents through CSC.

Afterwards, recipients arrange their study visas and prepare for registration.

SISU CSC Scholarship 2027 Application Deadline and Timeline

The initial application deadline is 22 November 2026 at 24:00 Beijing time.

By that time, applicants must complete the initial CSC submission and successfully submit a complete SISU application.

Initial CSC and complete SISU application deadline 22 November 2026, 24:00 Beijing time
Basic qualification review 27 November 2026
Online written examinations and interviews 1–11 December 2026
Approval of proposed programme admissions 14 December 2026

These dates follow the official announcement. Continue checking SISU’s messages for your individual examination arrangements and CSC resubmission instructions.

Above all, distinguish the December programme Admission Notice from the final scholarship results in 2027.

Important Scholarship Rules and Conditions

Before accepting the award, review the conditions that apply during selection, registration and study.

Restrictions on Holding Multiple Scholarships

Recipients cannot simultaneously receive this award and other scholarships from Chinese governments or admitting institutions, except for permitted one-time awards.

If SISU discovers prohibited overlapping funding, it revokes scholarship eligibility and requires repayment of scholarship funds already received.

Applicants who deliberately conceal their funding status also face a three-year restriction on future Chinese Government Scholarship applications.

Therefore, disclose other funding accurately and ask SISU about any potential conflict before accepting overlapping support.

Scholarship Deferral Is Not Permitted

SISU does not allow recipients to defer this scholarship.

Successful applicants must register within the designated period. If they miss registration, the university cancels both admission and scholarship eligibility.

Plan your visa application and travel around the official registration instructions.

Changes to University, Major or Study Duration

After arriving in China, recipients cannot change their admitting institution, major or approved study duration under this programme.

For this reason, check your programme choice carefully before accepting the offer. Make sure the degree supports your academic interests and long-term plans.

Annual Scholarship Review

Recipients must participate in the required annual scholarship review.

An unsuccessful review can lead to suspension or cancellation of funding. Therefore, scholarship holders should understand the applicable academic and administrative requirements throughout their studies.

Verification of Original Documents

Bring your original application materials when you register.

SISU checks these documents against the application. Missing materials or false information can lead to cancellation of admission and scholarship eligibility.

Keep your original certificates and supporting records organised so you can present them when the university requests verification.

Practical Tips for a Stronger SISU CSC Scholarship Application

A complete application helps you reach the assessment stage, but scholarship selection also depends on academic performance and suitability.

The following suggestions support preparation; they do not replace SISU’s official requirements or guarantee selection.

Select a Programme That Matches Your Qualifications

Start with the official programme table and review your academic background honestly.

Choose a degree that connects with your previous training, research interests and professional goals. Then, prepare a clear explanation of why the programme suits you.

This will also help you answer interview questions about your motivation and intended studies.

Prepare for the Entrance Examinations

SISU requires eligible applicants to take online written examinations and interviews.

Review the academic foundations of your intended field. In addition, practise explaining your previous studies, research experience and reasons for applying.

Follow the examination email for the actual format and arrangements. Do not assume that a general preparation guide describes the university’s examination content.

Develop a Relevant Study or Research Plan

Give your plan a clear academic direction.

Explain what you want to study, why it matters and how the programme can support your goals. For doctoral research, outline a manageable problem, possible methods and a realistic scope.

Use specific examples from your background where helpful. Also, check the official checklist for the required length, language and any signatures before finalising the document.

Submit Complete Documents Early

SISU may return incomplete applications for correction.

Submitting early gives you more time to respond before the deadline. Before submission, check file readability, missing pages and consistency across the CSC and SISU systems.

Pay particular attention to your passport details, programme choice and contact information. Small errors can complicate communication or document checks.

Keep Track of Every Application Stage

Save your submitted forms, payment records and university messages.

After the entrance examinations, continue checking your account and email. If SISU issues a programme Admission Notice, complete the CSC update and resubmission promptly.

Finally, keep monitoring the process until the university announces the final scholarship decision.

Students comparing university application routes can also read our HUST CSC Scholarship 2027 guide. Follow each institution’s own sequence rather than applying SISU’s procedure to another university.

Frequently Asked Questions About the SISU CSC Scholarship 2027

1. Is the Shanghai International Studies University CSC Scholarship 2027 fully funded?

Yes. SISU describes it as a full scholarship covering tuition, on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance and a monthly living allowance.

Master’s students receive RMB 3,000 per month, while doctoral students receive RMB 3,500. The announcement does not list airfare or visa fees as separate benefits.

2. What is the application deadline?

The deadline is 22 November 2026 at 24:00 Beijing time, meaning the end of that day.

Complete the initial CSC application and successfully submit the full SISU application before this deadline.

3. Can I apply without IELTS?

The announcement requires IELTS 6.0 or above for English-taught programmes.

It does not explicitly confirm alternative English tests or exemptions. Therefore, obtain SISU’s confirmation before relying on another certificate or previous English-medium education.

Applicants choosing Chinese-taught programmes must meet the relevant HSK requirement instead.

4. What is the Chinese language requirement?

Applicants to Chinese-taught master’s and doctoral programmes need HSK Level 5 with at least 180 points.

Also, check the admissions prospectus and programme instructions for any additional conditions.

5. Can I apply for both scholarship pathways?

Both pathways share the same initial Type B application process, deadline and entrance examinations.

You do not need two separate initial applications. SISU considers candidates according to the pathway requirements, designated majors and CSC approval.

However, do not assume that the Silk Road Programme offers a second evaluation after an unsuccessful CSC expert review. The announcement limits Type B applicants to one evaluation opportunity.

6. Do I need the programme Admission Notice before the initial application?

No. Under the published sequence, applicants first complete their initial CSC and SISU applications.

After the entrance assessments, successful candidates receive programme Admission Notices. They then upload those notices to CSC and resubmit.

Check separately whether your department requires any supervisor consent or other supporting document at the initial stage.

7. Are entrance examinations compulsory?

Yes. Eligible applicants must take SISU’s online written examination and interview.

The published examination period is 1–11 December 2026. SISU sends the arrangements by email and treats failure to attend as withdrawal.

8. Does university admission guarantee the scholarship?

No. Programme admission and scholarship selection involve separate decisions.

After programme admission, applicants must complete the CSC resubmission and continue through scholarship review. Final funding depends on the relevant university recommendation and CSC decision.

9. How many scholarships are available?

SISU plans to offer 50 scholarships.

However, CSC approval determines the actual number of awards, so the planned quota is not a guaranteed final total.

10. When will SISU announce the final results?

The published schedule places final scholarship results and formal admission documents in June–August 2027.

Successful candidates must confirm acceptance before SISU issues the formal admission documents.

11. Can successful applicants defer the scholarship?

No. SISU states that this scholarship cannot be deferred.

Recipients must complete registration within the designated period or lose their admission and scholarship eligibility.

12. What is the SISU CSC agency code?

The agency code is 10271.

Select Type B when completing the CSC application for this university scholarship route.

Conclusion

The Shanghai International Studies University CSC Scholarship 2027 offers full scholarship support for eligible international master’s and doctoral students.

Its benefits include a tuition waiver, on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance and monthly living allowances of RMB 3,000 for master’s students or RMB 3,500 for doctoral students.

Before applying, confirm your programme in the official 2027 information table and check the admissions prospectus and document checklist. Then, prepare for the university’s written examination and interview.

Complete the initial CSC application and full SISU submission by 22 November 2026 at 24:00 Beijing time. Afterwards, applicants who receive programme admission must upload their Admission Notice to CSC and resubmit as instructed.

Keep following university communications through the final scholarship decision, because programme admission alone does not guarantee funding.
